How we work

Field Review Status

Every guide on this site carries a review status. It tells you how the information was gathered and how much to trust the specifics before you go.

Why review status matters

Paddling decisions depend on details that change: access, parking, conditions, and rules. Rather than present every guide as equally confirmed, we label each one honestly so you know whether we have stood at that launch or only researched it.

Desk-researched
Built from public sources, maps, and available local information. Field visit pending.
Community update received
A local paddler or reader has submitted recent information.
Field visited
The launch has been checked in person and reviewed for access, parking, launch conditions, and practical paddling notes.
Needs re-check
Something may have changed, such as access, construction, closures, flooding, or seasonal conditions.

What each status means

Desk-researched
Built from public sources such as state agencies, parks, and water trail information. Useful for orientation, but not yet confirmed on site.
Community update received
A reader has shared an update we have noted. Helpful, and still worth confirming yourself.
Field visited
We have firsthand notes from being there, which raises confidence in the practical details.
Needs re-check
Enough time has passed, or something changed, that the guide is due for another look.

How a guide earns a "Field visited" label

"Field visited" is the only status that means someone from Paddle Greene stood at the launch. Before a guide earns it, a reviewer works through a detailed checklist on site and confirms the things that actually decide a paddle:

  • How to find it, where to park, and the carry from the car to the water.
  • Launch condition: surface, slope, mud, and room to put in.
  • Which amenities, such as restrooms, were actually there on the day.
  • Water context: wind exposure, current or tide, motorboat traffic, and visible hazards.
  • Honest beginner, family, and paddleboard suitability, with the reasoning written out.
  • Photos of the launch and surroundings, or a note explaining why there are none.

A community update never becomes "Field visited" on its own. Reader reports are labeled Community update received, and anything that flags a change or a safety or access concern moves the guide to Needs re-check until we can confirm it in person.

How to use desk-researched pages

Treat a desk-researched guide as a strong starting point, not a guarantee. Use it to choose where to go and what to expect, then confirm the time-sensitive details yourself before launching: weather, wind, water conditions, access, parking, and managing-agency rules. We never call a place "safe," and the go or no-go decision is always yours.
