Welcome. Paddle Greene is a practical guide to paddling in Greene County, NY and the nearby Catskills and Hudson Valley waters. This page is the fastest way to get oriented.

What this site helps with

This site helps you decide where to paddle, compare launch options, and understand the limits of each guide before you go. It is built to help you make a better paddling decision, not to sell you on a perfect day. We try to be useful and honest in equal measure.

How to choose your first guide

Start with your comfort level and the kind of water you want, not just the closest launch. If you are new, look for calm, no-motor water and short outings. If you want river paddling, read the Hudson guide first and be honest about conditions and ability. The decision guides are designed to point you to the right starting place.

What field review status means

Every guide carries a review status so you know how much to trust the specifics. "Desk-researched" means we built it from public sources and have not visited yet. "Field visited" means we have firsthand notes. Either way, conditions change, so check before you go. You can read the full explanation on the field review status page.

Good first places to look

Before you go

Check the weather and the wind, confirm your launch is open, wear a life jacket the whole time, dress for the water temperature, and tell someone your plan. None of our guides can promise conditions, and we never call a place "safe." The go or no-go decision is always yours.
